Brazil is a vast country offering everything from the Amazon rainforest to the beaches of Rio, the Iguazu Falls to the vibrant culture of Salvador. For UK travellers, there's one important vaccination requirement: Yellow Fever.
Required: Yellow Fever Vaccine
Brazil requires proof of Yellow Fever vaccination for all international travellers. You must have your International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) — the yellow card — to enter the country. The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before arrival.
At Holborn Clinic, we are an approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. Your certificate is issued on the day of vaccination and is valid for life.
Cost: £79 (includes vaccine, certificate, and free travel consultation)
Recommended Vaccines
Hepatitis A — Strongly recommended. Spread through contaminated food and water.
Typhoid — Recommended, especially outside major cities and tourist resorts.
Hepatitis B — Recommended for longer stays or if you may need medical treatment.
Rabies — Recommended if visiting the Amazon or rural areas where access to medical care may be limited.
DTP Booster — Ensure your diphtheria, tetanus, and polio booster is up to date.
Malaria Risk
Malaria is present in the Amazon basin and some rural areas of northern Brazil. Most tourist destinations (Rio, São Paulo, Salvador, Iguazu) are not in malaria zones. Anti-malarial tablets may be recommended if your itinerary includes the Amazon — our pharmacist will advise.
Dengue and Zika
Dengue fever is widespread in Brazil, particularly during the rainy season (November to May). Zika virus is also present. Prevention for both is through mosquito bite avoidance.
