Overview

Who Needs This Vaccine?

• 1All international travellers who have not had a DTP booster in the last 10 years.
• 2Travellers to regions where diphtheria outbreaks occur — particularly South Asia, South-East Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and parts of the former Soviet Union.
• 3Anyone visiting areas with limited access to medical care, where tetanus treatment may be delayed if you sustain a wound.
• 4Healthcare workers, aid workers, and volunteers travelling to endemic areas.
• 5Adults who are unsure of their vaccination history — most people in the UK received childhood doses but may not have had a booster since.

What to Expect

• 1A single injection in the upper arm — the appointment takes approximately 10 minutes.
• 2Protection is boosted within 2 weeks of vaccination.
• 3No additional boosters are needed for 10 years.
• 4This vaccine is often given in the same appointment as Hepatitis A, Typhoid, or other travel vaccines.
• 5If you are unsure when you last had a booster, our pharmacist can advise based on your age and vaccination history.

Side Effects

• 1Very common: mild pain or tenderness at the injection site.
• 2Common: slight swelling or redness at the injection site. Mild headache or fatigue.
• 3Serious side effects are extremely rare.
