Hajj is one of the world's largest annual gatherings. These are the key health risks our pharmacist will prepare you for.
Summer Hajj temperatures regularly exceed 40–45°C. Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are leading causes of pilgrimage illness. Drink at least 500ml of water per hour during peak hours and avoid direct sun during midday.
Close contact with 2–3 million pilgrims from over 180 countries creates ideal conditions for airborne illness. Meningitis, flu, COVID, and other respiratory infections spread rapidly at mass gatherings.
Communal eating and varying food hygiene standards increase the risk of Hepatitis A, typhoid, and traveller's diarrhoea. Rigorous handwashing and careful food choices are essential throughout.
Pilgrimage involves up to 10–15km of walking per day. Elderly pilgrims and those with cardiovascular conditions face higher risk from sustained physical exertion and large crowd situations.
Our pharmacist covers all of this in your consultation — no second visit required for the assessment.
